A folk art rooster sculpture by well known Kentucky artist Marvin Finn (Alabama, 1913-2007). The rooster is a free standing wood cut out on a simple plinth base, colorfully painted in a stippled pattern. The rooster is a common motif for the artist, it is signed and dated 2007 to the base.
Marvin Finn was keen to woodworking as a young boy, whittling toys for himself and others out of necessity. He began woodworking full time in 1966 and was persuaded by a friend to publicly display his talents in 1972 where he was spotted and his folk art collected by Kentucky First Lady Phyllis George. Marvin Finn has since earned an international reputation and his work can be found in European collections as well as in the United States.
