A group of two oil paintings on board of impressionistic Ohio landscapes by Irvin Christopher (Ohio, Tuscarawas County, 1868-1951), titled Rock Garden and October Days. Created in 1945, Rock Garden features a garden area populated with various trees, foliage, and colorful flowers. The work is titled to the lower center, signed ‘I.E. Christopher’ to the lower right, and dated to the lower right. It is presented in a gold-tone gesso and wood frame with scrolling foliate molding. October Days was created in 1947 and features a dirt path surrounded by rocks, and red flowered trees. This work is signed ‘I.E. Christopher’ to the lower left, and titled and dated to the lower center. The painting is also presented in a gold-tone gesso and wood frame with scrolling foliate molding. Both paintings have matching descriptive labels to the versos providing some information about the artist.
Condition
- small spots of accretion and paint loss scattered throughout; some wear in frame includes stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
