Antique Victorian Eastlake Cylinder Secretary with Bookcases, Late 19th Century

An antique Victorian Eastlake cylinder secretary with bookcases, late 19th century. The three-section, walnut case is decorated with burled panels and incised, geometric and floral motifs. The center column features a removable, floral-carved cornice above a two-door, glazed bookcase with three adjustable shelves resting on a cylinder roll with brass knobs. The cylinder opens to a fitted, maple desk interior with pigeonholes and two drawers. The pull-out writing surface is lined in green felt and it extends over one long drawer with Knapp joints and brass handles. Directly below is a stack of three short drawers on the left and a blind, two-shelf cabinet on the right. Flanking the cylinder secretary are two matching, glazed-door bookcases, each of which has five adjustable shelves and a base drawer. There are no maker’s marks.

- to fair; some scratches, scuffs, and nicks as would be expected with age and use; cornice of central bookcase missing a small piece of molding to left of carved floral reserve; desk interior and writing surface with ink stains; felt writing surface is later and with losses along the edges; bookcases retain working keys; glass appears to be original with expected waviness and imperfections.
