Vintage L. Maciel Mexican Sterling Silver Tea Service and Tray

A vintage L. Maciel Mexican sterling silver tea service consists of a water kettle and stand, water pitcher, coffee pot, teapot, cream pitcher, covered sugar bowl, waste bowl, eight coasters and an oval, footed and handled tray. The pieces are designed with bulbous, reticulated bodies which flow to circular bases. The lids on the coffee pot, teapot and sugar bowl are topped with ornately chased floral finials. The kettle lid is accented with a cone finial. The footed tray also has a reticulated rim and the two handles are adorned with floral chasing. All the pieces are appropriately marked, ’ L. Maciel Sterling Made in Mexico, 0.925’. Total weight of all fifteen pieces is 356.555 ozt.

Based in Mexico City, the L. Maciel Silver Factory was operational from 1930 until 1970. The company had a reputation for manufacturing high quality silver hollowware, and a limited offering of flatware and sterling silver cuff style bracelets.
