A wool and beaded stuffed wall hanging by Contemporary artist Kathleen Zien (20th century), 1973-74. This work depicts a palette of green and blue hues with beaded and fringed elements. The piece hangs with hardware attached to the top of the piece. An artist biography and history of the piece is included.
Kathleen Zien received her formal training in weaving at the Riverbend Art Center located in Dayton, Ohio. Later she went to Chicago for additional courses on the mechanics of warping and threading a loom. Zien is best known for her fringed, beaded, and stuffed wall hangings. Aside from weaving Zien has also taught elementary and junior high level art courses in Illinois. While there she earned the Governor’s Award for the Arts for an art elective program she lead in public and private elementary schools. Zien has also taught weaving classes at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
