A watercolor painting on paper of a western attack scene by well-listed artist Leonard Howard Reedy (1899 – 1956). This work features an attack between cowboys in covered wagons and Native Americans on horseback. Signed to the lower left, the work is presented under glass with off-white matting and housed in a wood frame with a gold-tone metal liner. A frame label is adhered to the verso.

Beyond studying at the Chicago Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts, Leonard Howard Reedy was largely self-taught as an artist. He was deeply inspired by the work of Frederic Remington, and was celebrated for his genre and action scenes of the American west. Although he was known as ’Chicago’s Cowboy Painter’, he traveled throughout the American west and southwest with Native American tribes, and lived in timber camps. Many of his works are featured in restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding area.
