Lee Young Hee Paris Couture Dress
Item Details
A women’s handbok Korean inspired dress by renown designer Lee Young Hee (South Korea 1936 – 2018). The sleeveless dress is designed with a plum silk bodice, a full skirt in layered sheer gray and black organza, a black slip to keep the dress modest and it zips at the side. The short jacket or jeorgi is in the sheer gray fabric with a tie to the side and striped sleeves which is a nod to the traditional jackets worn by Korean nobles. The label reads ‘Lee Young Hee Sa Fille Paris’.
Lee Young Hee attended Sungshin Women’s University majoring in design. She made her first debut in Paris in 1993 where she soon after opened her handbok boutique. The designer donated over one dozen handbok garments and traditional wedding gowns to the Smithsonian Museum for the opening of their Korean Gallery in 2008 and she was a favored designer to several of South Koreas First Ladies.
