Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Pictorial Kashan Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian pictorial Kashan vase rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of cochineal red, sky blue, sapphire, goldenrod, camel, and custard. It commences with a floral medallion, infilled with palmettes and grounded by a camel quatrefoil halo. The lozenge field is comprised of multi-colored layers densely populated with large vase forms, lobed rosettes, palmettes, lancet leaves, and foliage. Interrupting the field is an inward facing border of purling vines and lancet leaves, flanked by floral meander guard and secondary borders, while the wide primary border displays intricately designed vases and vessels. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. A maker’s tag was not present.
