A colored pencil drawing on illustration board titled A Country Bouquet for Tammy by Cincinnati-based artist Andrew Hostick (20th/21st century), created in 2017. As indicated by an inscription reading ‘Tom Wesselmann’ to the lower center, this work is based off Wesselmann’s print of the same name. It is portrayed with thick black outlines and angular shapes filled with a faint blue tint. The work is signed ‘AJK’ to the upper right; it is titled and specifically dated ‘8/31/17’ along the upper edge. A handwritten inscription to the board verso provides the artist, titled, and date to the work. The drawing is not mounted and remains unframed.

Andrew Hostick works from observation to paraphrase advertisements from various art magazines. Endorsements in Art in America and Artforum unfettered by content allow Hostick to focus on the image’s organization of objects and hue, allowing him to, via emulation, practice sophisticated use of composition and color theory. Choosing to work only with colored pencil on mat board, heavy-handed mark-making inscribes the surface and builds up a velvety sheen in his work. He works and reworks the entire surface (even white on white) with nonpareil intensity.
