A colored pencil drawing on paper titled Mess-up Picture with a Little Butterfly in It by Cincinnati-based artist Linda Kunick (20th/21st century), created in 2017. This work features a busy network of overlapping circles of various sizes, with segments filled with various colors. The work is signed to the lower center, with a butterfly motif drawn around the aritst’s signature. Mounted on a white surface, the work is presented under glass in a white painted wood frame. Two descriptive labels are present to the verso, one of which provides information about Visionaries + Voices.

As an artist, advocate, and activist, Linda Kunick is a force of nature. Linda’s colorful abstractions often combine nature and religion. Most notably, her consistent use of the butterfly is used as a symbol of freedom, change, and growth. In he own life, the artist has overcome a variety of obstacles and insecurities, which is obvious in her presence as she exudes, confidence and internal fortitude. She empowers others around her both in the studio and in her work. Kunick creates work in the belief that the act of viewing art can be transformative and that her ideas and joy can be communicated and shared with the world. She is a 2017 graduate of the Teaching Artist Program and has annually visited Nicaragua for the last 21 years to do mission work.
