Pair of Louis XVI Style Carved Beech Fauteuils, Early 20th Century

Item Details

A pair of antique Louis XVI style carved beech fauteuils from the early 20th century. The beech frames are upholstered in striped, silk-like fabric with floral and striped alternating design. They feature padded, cameo-shaped backs above shield-form seats flanked by open, partially-padded arms. The arms have scrolled, acanthus-carved handholds and the serpentine seat rails are embellished with stylized moldings. The items do not feature a maker’s mark.

Condition

- to fair; one chair with a small repair where left side of crest meets stile (there are later, reinforcement brackets on verso where crest meets both stiles); same chair has a little wobble and missing dust cover beneath seat; both in later upholstery; some tiny nicks/chips to ribbon crests; other minor wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
