A hand-knotted Persian Hashtrud area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of sapphire, madder red, cornflower, gold, olive, coffee, and ivory. The lozenge field is delineated with a vine and densely populated with a rectilinear herati motif. Madder red corner spandrels are infilled with oak leaves, diamond medallions, and anthropomorphic forms. Framing the field are geometric guard borders and carnation meander secondaries, while the primary border displays a resolved floral motif over ivory. The rug is finished with overcast barber pole selvedges and wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
