A watercolor painting on paper titled Indian Scout by listed American western artist Austin Deuel (b. 1939). This work features a Native American man riding a horse with a rifle throughout a western landscape populated with cacti, grass patches, and barren trees. Signed to the lower right, the work is presented under glass and housed in a brown beveled wood frame with a canvas liner. Adhered to the verso is a descriptive label and a short bio of the artist.

Born in Pittsburgh, Austin Deuel moved to Arizona in 1971. He is a sculptor, painter, and muralist especially known for his depictions of the American west. Deuel has authored several books including Canon De Los Artistas (1982), Even God is Against Us (1986), and Swan Lake, Nature’s Amazing Grace (2006). He is a member of the American Indian and Cowboy Artists, and his work has been collected by multiple institutions such as the U.S. Marine Corps Museum, the U.S. Airforce Combat Art Collection, and Trinity University, among others.
