A watercolor painting on paper titled Going to Town by listed American western artist Leonard Reedy (1899 – 1956). This work features a man and woman riding a horse-drawn wagon across an arid western landscape. Signed to the lower left, the work is presented under glass, double-matted, and housed in a distressed carved wood frame. To the verso is a descriptive label and an inscription that provides the artist, medium, and title of the work.

Beyond studying at the Chicago Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts, Leonard Howard Reedy was largely self-taught as an artist. He was deeply inspired by the work of Frederic Remington, and was celebrated for his genre and action scenes of the American west. Although he was known as ’Chicago’s Cowboy Painter’, he traveled throughout the American west and southwest with Native American tribes, and lived in timber camps. Many of his works are featured in restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding area.
