John Widdicomb Men's Dresser

A French Provincial style walnut wood dresser with three drawers inside a flip-down cabinet and three more drawers below. The included skeleton key works the lock in both locations. The John Widdicomb Company was instrumental in the creation of the Grand Rapids Furniture Makers Guild. The American Furniture Market had been held in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1878 and The Grand Rapids Furniture Guild and its related companies were leaders in the American furniture manufacturing industry. In the 1940s every piece was given a paper label bearing that mark and the words “MADE BY/JOHN WIDDICOMB CO./DESIGNED BY/Ralph H. Widdicombe/GRAND RAPIDS”. What is left of this label appears inside the top drawer. Companion piece to items 004 and 006.
