An oil painting on canvas titled No More Buffalo by American western artist Joe Grandee (b. 1929). This work features a Native American man on horseback in an expansive dry field with a couple cows grazing in the middle-ground. Signed to the lower left and titled to the verso, the work is presented in a brown wood frame with a canvas liner and a gold-tone sight edge.
Born in Texas, Joe Grandee studied at the Aunspaugh Art School in Dallas. He is a sculptor, painter, and illustrator known for his portrayals of the American west and military scenes, particularly his historically accurate depictions of the Dragoons and Cavalrymen of the U.S. Army. In 1974, a retrospective of his work was exhibited at the U.S. Capitol, and he was appointed as the ‘Official State Artist of Texas’ by the Texas Legislature. His work has been exhibited on numerous covers of various Western magazines, including True West, Frontier Times, Old West, and The Westerner, among others.
