Antique Regency Style Mahogany Cheval Mirror with Marquetry Inlay, Circa 1900

Item Details

An antique Regency style mahogany cheval mirror with marquetry inlay, circa 1900. The tilting, rectangular frame features a shaped crest inlayed with a central rosette and floral sprays above a conforming mirror plate with beveled edges. The frame is supported by a pair of square posts with urn-shaped finials and brass, candle sconce mounts continuing to a trestle base with saber legs and brass casters. The posts and legs are further embellished with inlaid bellflowers while the majority of the frame is bordered by lightwood and ebonized stringing. There are no maker’s marks.

Condition

- to fair; scattered small veneer chips/losses and repairs; top left finial with a crack at base, it is probably a replacement; top left finial has been repaired; missing candle sconces; mirror plate with some silver losses, mostly along top edge; other minor surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
