Paul Chidlaw Original Graphite Landscape
Item Details
Graphite on paper
An original graphite drawing on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The drawing depicts an abstracted hilly landscape drawn in minimalist linework that extends into a cloudy sky. The drawing is unsigned, but has stamps from Chidlaw’s wife and his estate authenticating the piece to the verso. The drawing is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
