An oil painting on board by by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015) after a detail from Botticelli’s masterwork Primavera. This piece features the portrait of a woman with her head covered with a veil and her gaze turned downward, rendered in an earth toned palette. This work is unsigned. It is marked to the verso with the title and a stamp from the artist’s estate. It is unframed, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
