Two first edition books about Sam Houston. Included is a 1929 edition of The Raven by Marquis James, published in Indianapolis by The Bobbs-Merrill Company. In the front is a halftone reproduction portrait print of Sam Houston after a photograph by Frederick of New York City. The book includes a two-page printed map of the Republic of Texas and single-page printed map of Houston’s Conception of the Texas Republic. The red clothbound hardcover is protected with a dust jacket featuring a printed design. Handwritten inscriptions are present to the interior.
Also included is a 1962 edition of Sam Houston: American Giant by M.K. Wisehart, published by Robert B. Luce, Inc. in Washington. This book includes black and white plates featuring portraits, illustrations, and homes in Texas. The blue clothbound hardcover is protected with a blue dust jacket featuring a printed design and portrait of the author to the verso.
