Peter Robert Keil Oil Painting Portrait

Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German, b. 1942)
Untitled (Abstract portrait)
Oil painting on board
Signed to the lower right

A late 20th century oil painting on board titled Abstract figure by well-listed contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). This work features the abstract portrait of an ambiguous figure portrayed in Keil’s signature style exhibiting loose black outlines against a vibrant pink background. The work is signed to the lower right and presented unframed.

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
