A collection of four vintage carved wooden bird figurines by Joseph H. Dodson Inc.; Dodson (1862-1949) started a workshop business in 1915 building birdhouses and other bird related items and was known as ‘The Birdman of Kankakee’. Each of the hand-painted two-dimensional bird carvings rests on a painted wood rowel over a carved wooden plinth. The birds include common Midwestern birds such as a cardinal and bluebird. They are marked with a metal maker’s plaque which reads, ‘Joseph H. Dodson Inc. Bird Houses & Sparrow Traps Kankakee, Ill. Pat Apld.For’.
