Semi-Antique Handwoven Caucasian Wool Soumak Room Sized Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique handwoven Caucasian wool soumak room sized rug, likely Kazak in origin. This elaborate rug is rendered in an abrash palette of cranberry, sapphire, mahogany; gold, mocha, sky blue, carnation, celadon, and sepia. The cranberry hued field features three hexagonal star medallions infilled with a main star motif, while accompanied by smaller medallions in an array of shapes, along with ram’s horn and floral motifs. Framing the field is a main bracket and ‘animal pelt’ border, as well as a pair of two-petal calyx guard borders, and a running dog minor border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. It is unlabeled.
