An antique Eastern Orthodox icon on wood panel of the Transfiguration of Christ. Portrayed in a traditional Byzantine style with a gilt background, this hand-painted work features Christ surrounded by a blue mandorla, flanked by Moses and Elijah. Saints Peter, James, and John the Evangelist hover below on the mountain as they react in awe to Christ revealing himself as the Son of God. A Greek inscription at the top reads ‘Η ΜΕΤΑΜΟ-ΡΦΩΣΗ’, translating to ‘The Transfiguration’. The work remains unframed and two stabilizing horizontal wood shponki are present to the verso.
