An antique Russian icon of Christ Pantocrator. This icon on wood panel features a frontal portrait of Christ with a hand-painted face and hands, surrounded by a copper repoussé oklad. Christ holds an open Bible in his left hand and raises his right hand in a blessing gesture. He is surrounded by an etched border into the riza featuring an geometric arabesque pattern. A raised halo, separately attached, surrounds his head. The work features modern Cyrillic text that is an abbreviated form of ‘Господь Вседержитель’, translating to ‘Savior Almighty’ or ‘Christ Pantocrator’. The panel is lined with red velvet to the verso.
