Xavier University Poster for 1982 Paul Chidlaw Exhibition with Autograph

An autographed Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989) exhibition poster from a 1982 show at Xavier University’s Emery Gallery. Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University. This poster, from an exhibition which ran during October 1982, depicts the artist in front of one of his works of art. The poster is signed in marker to the lower left. This piece is presented behind glass in a metal frame.
