A mid 20th century shin hanga woodblock on paper titled Rain at Kasuga Shrine by artist Kawase Hasui (川瀬巴水, Japanese, 1883 – 1957), published by Watanabe Shozaburo, Japan. The work depicts two figures under an umbrella, standing before a temple in the rain. The composition is marked with the Watanabe seal to the lower right and signed ‘Hasui’ in plate and sealed to the lower left. Characters stamped to the lower margin are obscured by mat. The print is presented in a wooden frame under a mat, under glass. It is inscribed illegibly to the verso with the date ‘5/18/1967’.

Condition

- ink bleeding through to verso; discoloration to margins; pinholes in corners; scratches to frame.
