Item Details
Untitled
Pastel on paper
Unsigned
A collection of three original pastel drawings on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The drawings each depict abstract compositions created by layering fields of scribbled color and gestural linework, all in a bright variety of color. The drawings are unsigned, and are marked to the verso with a verification stamp from the artist’s estate. The drawings are presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
