An 1849 lithograph with later hand-coloring by Belgian artist Louis Haghe (1806-1885) from his book Egypt and Nubia, after an 1838 drawing by English-Scottish painter David Roberts (1796-1864) titled Thebes. In 1838 and 1839, Roberts traveled throughout Egypt and the Holy Land sketching remarkable landmarks and scenes. Haghe produced 247 lithographs based on the drawings at a remarkable pace, and published them in 1849; this is an image from that book. The print is signed in-plate to the lower right.
