A Surrealist oil painting on board titled Mammon Don’t ‘llow No Bantu Swayin’ ’Round Here by self-taught artist K.C. Truschel (20th/21st Century). This satirical composition conveys the artist’s commentary on the greed and treatment of workers in corporate America, with Mort Sahl playing the organ in the left background. The work is signed ‘KCT 7/62’ to the lower right and titled to the verso. It is presented in a simple wood frame.

K.C. Truschel was an unknown, self-taught painter from Bradford Woods near Pittsburgh. He painted from 1962-1967 and his work was never shown during his lifetime. His paintings often displayed themes of man’s shortcomings. His work was exhibited at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in 2002.

Condition

- paint chipping present to lower left; faint scratch marks scatterd throughout; fraying at board corners; some paint loss and rubbing along edges and corners of board; wear to frame includes some separation at corners, scratches, and stains scattered throughout; board is loose in frame and needs securing.
