A mixed media drawing on paper by artist Martha Fairchild (20th century), created circa 1970s. Comprised of crayon and ink wash, this work features a colorful abstract face portrayed with various vibrant colors and sketchy black delineations. Unsigned, the work is presented under a beige mat and remains unframed.
Martha Fairchild Shepler was a longtime instructor of graphic design at La Roche College, where she headed the department for 14 years. Mostly known for her printmaking, she was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and a founder of the Pittsburgh Print Group. She also taught part-time at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, where famed artist Keith Haring was among her students.
