An abstract oil and ink painting on canvas by Outsider artist Jonathan Joseph Burns (American, 1951-2015). This work features a sea of numerous stylized faces and floral motifs portrayed with various colors, large gestural brushstrokes, and loose delineations in black ink. The work is signed to the lower right and remains unframed.

J.J. Burns lived and worked in South Oakland for many years where he rented a room in a square white brick building on Ophelia street. He covered the exterior with painted faces and wallpapered the interior with an array of colorful cardboard images. He eventually moved back to Binghamton, New York where he lived in a shack behind his mother’s house and decorated it in the same, wild manner.
