A hand-knotted inscribed Pakistani Kashmiri wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of cranberry, sapphire, gold, sky blue, burnt orange, ivory, walnut, wheat, and olive. The cranberry colored field features an allover design of latticed vine-work with palmettes, floral motifs, and lancette leaves that begins with a central rosette, while enclosed by layered spandrels with sapphire and gold ground colors. Framing the field is a main sapphire grounded stylized herati border, along with floral meander guard borders, and a cartouche to one end with an inscription. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a cotton warp fringe to the ends. It is labeled ‘Kashmirian Carpets’.
