A 20th century bronze male Edan figure from the Ogboni society of the Yoruba in Nigeria. Once connected to a female figure by a chain, this male Edan bronze now stands alone smoking a pipe with his arms crossed. The pair of figures would have been worn around the neck by a society elder as a symbolic object of power and rank.
