A 20th century carved wooden Bamana Chiwara headdress from Mali. This sculptural headdress features a male antelope perched on the back of an aardvark. The sculpture was once attached to a basket and would be worn during an agricultural celebration; the antelope’s tall antlers mimic long grains in honor of the occasion. Similar Chiwara can be seen in the Quai Branly Museum in Paris.

- dust, debris, and surface abrasions to surface; some cracks present to wood.
