Unsigned
A 20th century Benin bronze memorial head of an Oba (King) by the Edo people (present day Nigeria, Africa). The royal depicted is wearing a crested helmet with a cap of layered beads and clusters of hanging braids. The striking wide eyes and open mouth are contrasted by the regal and poignant aesthetic of the work. Also typical are the four cicatrices above each eye which most likely represent a female.
