An artist’s proof lithograph on paper titled Hercole by renowned Italian artist Giorgio De Chirico (1888-1978). This work is marked ‘P.A.’ in graphite to the lower right and signed ‘G. de Chirico’ in graphite to the lower right. It is not mounted and remains unframed.
Italian artist and writer Giorgio de Chirico was the founder of scuola metafisica art movement which significantly influenced Parisian Surrealism. Born in Greece, he studied art at Athens Polytechnic under the guidance of Georgios Roilos and Georgios Jakobides. In Munich, he continued studies at the Academy of Fine Arts under Max Klinger. He was championed by renowned art critic Guillaume Apollinaire, and influenced a number of artists including Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, and René Magritte, to name a few. His work has been exhibited by numerous prestigious institutions including the Guggenheim Museum, the Tate, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among many others.
