Gustavo Novoa Oil Painting "Behind the Round Window"

Item Details

Gustavo Novoa (Chilean/American; b. 1941)
Behind the Round Window, 1990
Oil painting on Masonite
Signed to the lower right

Born in Santiago, Chile, Gustavo Novoa studied briefly at the Academy of Fine Arts and Law School before withdrawing to sell his art on the streets of Paris, France. While Novoa has experienced various periods of artistic styles, his animals rendered in thick impasto and textured oils remain the quintessential representation of his oeuvre. From their natural homelands to outer space, Novoa’s animals have even graced a commissioned poster for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey. Gaining great recognition for his work in the 70s and 80s, Gustavo Novoa exhibited his work in multiple cities from New York to Paris. Novoa has since moved onto his ‘adobe’ period where he works to capture the landscapes of the Arizona desert in his unique palette knife style.
