John Rogers Painted Plaster Sculpture "Is it so Nominated..."

A painted plaster sculpture group titled Is it so Nominated in the Bond? after American sculptor John Rogers (1829–1904). This sculptural group depicts the famous trial scene in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice with the characters in period garb on an oval base. The title of the work and the character’s names are inscribed in block letters to the front of the rectangular base. ‘John Rogers / New York / 1880’ is inscribed to the top of the base next to the figures; the work is patented ‘June 1st 1880’ on the second step behind the figures.
