John Rogers Painted Plaster Sculpture "Fetching the Doctor"

An antique reproduction painted plaster sculpture group titled Fetching the Doctor after American sculptor John Rogers (1829–1904). Created after the bronze version by Rogers, this work features a man and the country doctor rushing on horseback. The title of the work is inscribed in block letters to the front center of the rectangular base. ‘John Rogers / New York/ 1881’ is inscribed to the top of the base in front of the figures; and the work is patented ‘Dec. 6, 1881’ on the base behind the figures.

Condition

- large chips present to horse tail, man’s foot, and smaller chips scattered throughout; man’s foot and parts of horse’s tale have been glued together; boy’s left hand is broken off; scratches and nicks scattered throughout surface.
