An antique reproduction painted plaster sculpture group titled The School Examination after American sculptor John Rogers (1829–1904). This work features a genre scene with two inscructors giving a young school girl an examination. The title of the work is inscribed in block letters to the front center of the rectangular base. ‘John Rogers / New York’ is inscribed to the top of the base in front of the figures; the work is patented on the base behind the figures, however the inscription is illegible due to wear. Also included is The Travelers calendar of 1939, featuring images of John Rogers’ statue groups for each month.
Condition
- large pieces broken off on girl and man’s arms; smaller chips scattered throughout; nicks and scratches scattered throughout surface; dirt and residue collected throughout; wear throughout calendar including foxing, toning, small tears to pages, wrinkling and curling to paper edges; small stains scattered throughout calendar pages.
