An original vintage watercolor painting on paper by 20th century Cincinnati-based artist Phil Foster (1915 – 1999). The painting depicts a portrait of a woman painted in thin cross-hatched lines in pale, cool shades of paint. The painting is faintly signed in pencil to the upper left. The painting is matted in mustard velveteen and presented behind glass in a wooden frame with a hanging wire.
Foster exhibited in group exhibitions both locally and internationally. He received his BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 1933 as well as an honorary doctorate in 1986. He taught at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning from 1947 to 1986.
Condition
- paper is slightly discolored with age. Light warping in velveteen matting.
