A limited woodblock by artist Stanton Macdonald Wright (1890 – 1973) from series titled The Haiku Series, dated 1966-1967. This print depicts abstract images emitting colorful, almost neon hues of the color spectrum. It is unsigned, with a quote from Kobayashi Issa ‘’O flying butterfly I feel myself a creature of dust’ under the image to the lower left and a limited edition number 21 of 50 in the lower middle. The piece is presented under mat, without glass and set in a wood frame.
In 1966-67,American artist Stanton Macdonald Wright spent a period in Kyoto and worked with a master of traditional Japanese woodblock techniques, Clifton Karhu, to create a portfolio of twenty haiga, or illustrations to haiku poems.
