Michael Skop Original Pastel Drawing of Seated Woman

Item Details

Pastel on paper

An original pastel drawing on brown paper by listed American artist Michael Skop (1932 – 2009). This drawing features a seated woman, wearing an unbuttoned white shirt, and leaning with on her elbows on her knees and one finger in her mouth. It is rendered in lively black line work, with an expressionistic application of color in select areas. This piece is signed to the lower center. It is presented under glass, in a light gold tone metal frame and is ready to hang with a wire.

Skop was a native of Cleveland, Ohio and studied sculpture with Ivan Mestrovic (a pupil of Rodin) at Syracuse University. He completed additional studies at Notre Dame, the Danish Royal Art Academy, and the University of Perugia. Skop created many sculpture commissions for private collectors and institutions throughout Europe before returning to the United States where he taught at Southern Connecticut State College. He eventually settled in Northern Kentucky where he held teaching positions at the Cincinnati Art Academy and Northern Kentucky University, and established Studio 70 in his home, a working studio with an open-door policy for artists.
