Three Paul Chidlaw Original Acrylic and Ink Abstract Compositions

Item Details

Mixed Media

A collection of three original ink and acrylic paintings on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The pieces each depict abstract composition made of bold, minimalist ink linework accented with broad, textured strokes of paint. The pieces are unsigned, but the artist’s estate stamp is visible to the verso of each. The pieces are presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
