An antique oil painting on canvas by an anonymous artist, dated to the late 19th century. This work depicts the portrait of a child seated against a tree while eating berries in a Romantic style outdoor landscape. The piece is unsigned and presented in a 20th century gilt wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.

Condition

- to Fair; marked craquelure throughout the painting, concentrated in lower third of composition; overpainting to the figure’s eye, arm, dress, and legs; overpainting to the background, concentrated to lower left and right corners; pinhead-sized areas of missing paint to the lower left and rights corners; painting shows signs of restorations, including thin coating to verso, canvas has been restretched, varnish layers and an overall flat surface; mild areas of yellowing to varnish layers; minor scuffing to frame and gilt finish.
