Hand-Knotted Persian Hamadan Pictorial Wool Long Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Hamadan pictorial wool long rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of indigo, cranberry, sky blue, sand, ivory, and carnation. The indigo colored field begins with a large-scale pendant medallion infilled with a flowering branch form and palmettes, while accompanied with rectilinear vine-work, and an array of four legged animal and bird motifs. Framing the field is a main cranberry grounded border designed with cartouches and medallions, along with a pair of carnation meander guard borders, and chained minor borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a cotton warp fringe to one end, while the other is bound. It is unlabeled.
