Antique Ladderback Side Chairs with Rocking Armchair Attributed to Aaron Hougham
Item Details
A group of two antique ladderback side chairs with a rocking armchair attributed to Aaron Hougham (American, 1776-1856). The first side chair features four arched slats, cylindrical finials, a rush seat, and spindled stretchers. It dates to the 20th century. The second, taller side chair has three shaped slats, acorn finials, a splint seat, and spindled stretchers. It rises on tapered legs and dates to the 19th century. Also included is a rocking armchair with four shaped slats, acorn finials, a splint seat, and spindled stretchers. The inside of the left rocker is incised ‘AARON HOUGHAM 1776-1856’. It dates to the first half of the 19th century.
