Item Details
An original acrylic painting on paper by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This abstract painting features spontaneous directional brushstrokes across the composition, with spots of bright color across the full spectrum interspersed through the large areas of black. This work is unsigned, but a label indicating the artist is attached to the verso. This piece is unframed, presented against a protective cardboard backing in an acetate sleeve.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
