An original 2010 watercolor painting with collages tissue paper accents by by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This abstract painting features interlocking organic shapes in vibrant color. This work is signed and dated in graphite to the lower right on the mat. It is presented behind a white mat, under glass, in a black composite frame and is ready to hang with a wire.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
